Greenstone strives to build homes that are energy efficient and sustainable throug Energy Star and Built Green and LEED certifications

Environmental Stewardship

At Greenstone, Green is our favorite color.

We care about the environment because it adds lasting value to your home, it saves you money and because it's the right thing to do. We use low-emission paints and carpets. We design our neighborhoods for easy transportation by foot, bicycle and public transit. We plant trees to improve both our neighborhoods and the global climate. Construction to U.S. Government ENERGY STAR specifications is included in every Greenstone home, reducing the long-term impact on the environment and your wallet. And that's only the beginning.

In every community we strive to meet or exceed new environmental principles, raising standards in areas like water conservation, storm water management, native plant use, bike and pedestrian access and protecting Inland Northwest rivers and lakes. As a result of our practices, Greenstone's River District was recently selected as a nationwide demonstration project for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Neighborhood Design.

Waste Management is always a priority:

  • With every new house we build we perform an audit of wasted materials. From this audit we adjust our material order accordingly and continue to reduce our waste with each house we build.
  • All but the smallest scraps from our roofing material get used. They are either used on future jobs or donated to affordable housing providers.
  • Drywall scraps are brought to a local plant food company to be used to produce fertilizers.
  • At least 85% of cardboard, wood, metal, and packing materials are recycled.

ENERGY STAR© Homes

  • Our homes have higher insulation values than are required by the building code, making regulating your home's temperature easier and more cost effective.
  • Air sealing ensures you will breathe fresher air and have fewer drafts in your home.
  • Low E windows protect your furniture, carpet, and curtains from fading.
  • 3rd party verification gives you peace of mind that your new home meets all ENERGY STAR qualifications.
  • Low energy use fixtures and appliances save water, electricity, and the environment.
